Chapter 5 of 200 Years Together addresses the fact that only a few Jews were killed in the pogroms that took place after the assassination of Alexander II. Not the tens of thousands of Jews killed that the Jews claimed to have been killed. Also the fact that the Russian government acted quickly to suppress any actions against the Jews.

I doubt the Czarist govt tried to go easy on the Jews after the 1881 asassination of Alexander II. The Cossacks were well-known Jew hunters in Czarist times. That’s probably why the Bolsheviks had them liquidated after the 1917 revolution. Nicholas II had a heavily annotated copy of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion. He wrote comments in the margins along the lines of “How true!” and “That’s how the Jews really think.” He was a good man, but he didn’t realize just how determined the Jews were to destroy him and his whole family.
