Bush Presides Over Hanukkah Celebration

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush on Monday honored the celebration of Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday that commemorates religious freedom and the successful fight against oppression.

In the East Wing of the White House, Bush presided over the lighting of a menorah on the fourth night of the holiday. He and first lady Laura Bush listened to traditional Hanukkah prayers and songs before the president issued a message of hope.

“The word Hanukkah means dedication, and the message of Hanukkah calls on us to dedicate ourselves to recognizing the miracles in our daily lives,” Bush said to a few dozen gathered guests. “This dedication has the power to lift our souls and to make us better people, and to make the world a better place.”

Bush also met earlier in the day in the White House with Jewish leaders.

The Palestinians are finally succumbing to your plots, you think. The long-planned bottle has finally been sealed, in which the “drunken cockroaches” can only crawl around, shooting each other.

Maybe you are sitting back in your national chair, rubbing your hands together in triumph, watching the Palestinians finally turn on each other, slowly becoming what you always claimed they were. Maybe you are repelled, secure in your sense of superiority.

But have you thought about what you are you going to do, if Palestinian leadership you despise finally disintegrates?

You have brought them to this pass, of course. You worked for decades to achieve exactly this. You bribed, terrorized, expelled, maimed or killed their leadership, banned or killed their visionaries and philosophers, fanned and funded Hamas against Fatah or Fatah against Hamas, trashed their democracy, stole their money, walled them in, put them on a “diet”, derided their claims, and lied about their history to the world and to yourself.

But what are you going to do, Israel, if five million Palestinians are finally living leaderless under your sovereignty? What will you do, when they lose their capacity to negotiate with you? Have you thought that, within the territory you control, they are as many as you? And that now you are destroying their unified voice? German fund pays compensation to nearly 1.7 million Nazi victims

BERLIN: Nearly 1.7 million people forced to work for the Nazis during World War II have received more than €4 billion (nearly US$6 billion) in compensation, the foundation running the program said Thursday.

It said it had compensated more than 99 percent of the forced laborers who qualify, before a Dec. 31 deadline, said Guenter Saathoff, a member of the board of trustees of the Remembrance and Future fund.

The fund began work in 2001, handling applications from people made to work in concentration camps or as forced laborers in Nazi industries.

The foundation said that 1.7 million victims or their legal heirs in 100 countries have received a total of €4.4 billion (US$5.8 billion).

The foundation said it plans to continue its work next year, using funds to help aging victims of the Nazis to pay medical bills, or to finance other humanitarian projects.

“The goal will be to develop into an indispensable instrument of activity for humanity and human rights and for learning from history,” the group said.

In 2000, after years of debate, the Berlin government passed legislation setting up the program, which it funds together with large companies that profited from forced labor across Europe during the war.

Therefore, detailed proof of the government’s treason must be formed into a legal, written proclamation calling on the government to disband itself and failing this, for a citizens insurrection to restore control to the people- hopefully led by the military or ‘We the people’.

In view of rapidly deteriorating economic, social, and political events and resultant unrest, a large percentage of America would support this, and a small, well ordered and WELL INFORMED group of patriots- especially when led or directed by good experienced, retired military, could change and re establish constitutional government overnight, bringing an unprecedented age of peace and prosperity to the world, which now, thanks to progress in genetic science, allied with information technology could last forever.

Of course we could all just sit back and do nothing and maybe the world will be saved from destruction say by the power of prayer- as a non believer who has in actual experiment, demonstrated the inability of the power of several hundred pray-ers to even move a delicately balanced hair, this seems an unlikely eventually.
Or we could just hope that chance and nature will sort it out- more likely in my opinion, especially so, under the (my) established theory ( an agnostic’s version of the maxim “God helps those who help themselves” which dictates that stupid (god) nature always uselessly provides a solution after you’ve gone to all the trouble of sorting the problem for yourself. Thus, after searching for months through journals, E-bay, the papers and asking every friend for wanted item/ solution, ‘A’ then after finally getting/making/ fixing/ solving ‘A’, you know for certain that the first person you meet says- “Why didn’t you ask me, I got one cheap/ threw ten away last week/ paid £x to have them removed, etc.”

Since this – as all of Murphy’s, is an unbreakable law, then so it must be.

PARIS — Nearly 40 European and North American research institutes will suspend contacts with a leading Iranian think tank that helped organize last week’s conference in Tehran of Holocaust deniers, a Paris-based researcher said Saturday.

The institutes, including the Center for International Studies in Victoria, have agreed to suspend ongoing programs with the Iranian Institute for Political and International Studies, or IPIS, according to a statement issued by Francois Heisbourg, who organized the boycott.

They have also refused participation in IPIS meetings or invite IPIS staff to their own forums and to decline travel to Iran sponsored by the Iranian institute.

The Dec. 11-12 conference in Tehran drew Holocaust deniers from around the world to debate whether the Second World War genocide of Jews took place. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a keynote speaker, said
that Israel will one day be “wiped out” and “humanity will achieve freedom.”

Boycott

The conference drew denunciations from around the world.

Researchers, led by Heisbourg, decided to issue their own form of protest by boycotting the Iranian institute that organized the conference.

“It’s the equivalent for us of breaking off diplomatic relations between embassies,” Heisbourg said in a telephone interview.

Heisbourg, chairman of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and president of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, said the IPIS is a touchstone in Iran for foreign researchers.

The statement describes the IPIS as a “mainstream Iranian interface” with foreign think tanks.

“Through its complicity with the deniers of the absolute evil that was the Holocaust, IPIS has now forfeited its status as an acceptable partner,” according to the statement.

IPIS had the leading role in organizing the Tehran conference, calling for papers, sending invitations, arranging logistics, Heisbourg said.

“They convened the meeting and ran the meeting,” he said.

‘A moral decision’

The decision to suspend contacts with the IPIS was a moral, not a political, decision, Heisbourg said, “to make it very, very clear that every time a red line is crossed there actually is a price to be paid. The price here is quite real.”

The decision to boycott IPIS will not be reconsidered without “an explicit repudiation of Holocaust denial and a return to academic standards,” the statement said.

Dozens of European and American experts signed on to the statement, as well as several in Canada and Australia.

Heisbourg said that among the signatories are John Hamre, head of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington; Volker Perthes, director of Berlin’s Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik; Tomas Ries, director of the Swedish Institute for International Affairs; Ognyan Minchev, director of the Institute for Regional and International Studies in Sofia, Bulgaria; Gordon Smith of the Center for International Studies in Victoria; Eugeniusz Smolnar, director for the Center for International Relations in Warsaw, Poland; Ross Babbage, director of Australia’s Strategy International.

An array of French signers includes Thierry de Montbrial, director of the French Institute of International Relations.

LADY RENOUF TWITTED BY ‘AUSTRALIAN’ TWATS

Socialite meets the stars of Holocaust denial

SHE is a one-time Newcastle beauty queen, the daughter of a truckie, a London socialite and former wife to the late Kiwi tycoon Frank Renouf.
But so-called historian Michele Renouf now commands prominence for her controversial views on the Holocaust, meeting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the gathering of revisionists he sponsored in Tehran last week.

“I have come with great pleasure to see this expose,” she told the BBC on Monday, the first day of the two-day conference, called The Holocaust: A Global Vision.

“I don’t know too many things about Iran but certainly I think we must celebrate that we can come to this country and speak in the way that we cannot in the free world.”

Speakers included Adelaide’s Frederick Toben, who has described as “mere puffery” otherwise undisputed evidence – provided by the Nazis themselves – that Zyklon-B gas was used to murder Jews in their millions.

Another Australian, Richard Krege, an electrical engineer for Airservices Australia in Canberra, described the gas chambers as an “outright lie”, a claim he thought was supported by a model he built of the Treblinka extermination camp.

The conference continued to cause outrage in Britain yesterday as Ahron Cohen, an Orthodox rabbi from Greater Manchester and a leading member of the anti-Zionist Neturei Karta movement, told The Sunday Times that God would have saved the Nazis’ victims if they had deserved to live.

Cohen’s trip to Tehran – along with four American rabbis from the same sect – was paid for by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, which organised the conference. They were also warmly greeted by Ahmadinejad, who has a PhD in traffic lights.

Renouf and another Australian attendee, Mohammed Hegazi of Melbourne, were so eager to meet the bogeyman of the West they pushed through a crowd to present him with their papers after he told the conference Israel would soon “disappear”.

She reportedly called Ahmadinejad “a hero” for opening debate about the Holocaust. Wearing a green robe and Islamic headscarf, she addressed the conference. However Hegazi refused to comment about her address, saying it would be published next year. “If this is going to be part of a newspaper article then I can’t divulge any information from her speech,” he said. Attempts by The Australian to contact Renouf have been unsuccessful.

Toben – an amateur historian who set up the Adelaide Institute in 1994 to pursue his cause and spent seven months in a German prison in 1999 for inciting racism – describes Renouf as “once a commoner but lifted in the sophisticated set because of her own inner strength and convictions”.

Renouf, who still uses the honorific lady from her knighted former husband, claims to be a media representative for David Irving, the British historian serving three years in an Austrian jail for denying the Holocaust.

Members tried to have her expelled from London’s exclusive Reform Club for inviting Irving to a function.

Irving is said to have been the catalyst for Renouf’s sudden interest in anti-Semitism, having claimed she had no interest in World War II or the Holocaust until reading about his libel trial.

Irving in 2000 unsuccessfully sued American academic Deborah Lipstadt for calling him a Holocaust denier. Renouf attended the hearing and endeared herself to Irving, who was bankrupted by the legal costs.

Renouf was born Michelle Mainwaring and crowned Miss Newcastle in 1968. She was Sir Frank’s third wife – after his divorce from Susan Renouf – and they married in 1991 when the banking tycoon was 72.

Frank knew her as Countess Griaznoff, the ex-wife of a Russian count. She reportedly stated on her marriage certificate that her father was dead. But the story disintegrated when Frank learned – while the couple were on a six-week honeymoon in Australia – that his father-in-law was a truck driver called Arthur living at The Entrance on the NSW Central Coast.

They divorced a month later.

At the end of the Tehran conference, Renouf was included among members of a “truthseeking” committee. Among the committee’s “tasks” is to organise the next conference.

BLACK EPISCS SAY NO TO FAGGOTRY, NYT WORRIED

Two large and influential Episcopal parishes in Virginia voted overwhelmingly yesterday to leave the Episcopal Church and to affiliate with the Anglican archbishop of Nigeria, a conservative leader in a churchwide fight over homosexuality.

Five smaller churches in Virginia also announced yesterday that they had voted to secede, joining four others that have already left and three more expected to announce their decisions soon. Some affiliated with other archbishops in Africa.

The secessions could lead to battles over the churches’ property, although both sides say they want to avoid legal fights. The move is also likely to escalate divisions in the worldwide Anglican Communion, a 77-million-member alliance in which the Episcopal Church is the American branch.

The Rev. Martyn Minns, rector at one of the two large parishes, Truro Church in Fairfax, said at a news conference: “A burden is being lifted. There are new possibilities breaking through.”

Clergy members at some of these churches have for many years criticized what they regard as a leftward drift in the Episcopal Church and saw the consecration of an openly gay bishop in New Hampshire in 2003 as the last straw.

Episcopal Church leaders tried to persuade them that the church could accommodate everyone. The conservatives are a minority in a denomination with 7,200 congregations in 100 dioceses in the United States. Since 2003, about 36 other churches have left, according to the Episcopal News Service. Several dioceses have also taken steps toward separation.

DUMB TEACHERS ARE NOT THE EXCEPTION

Teacher Can’t Spell but She’s Teaching Your Kiddies

A true story from my friend Sheryl. The kiddies had a Christmas party at (public) school, and the mothers showed up to bring food, participate, etc. So the kids are going to play Christmas bingo, and her son’s fifth-grade teacher asks the kids to raise their hands, offer some Christmas words, and she will write them on the board for use in bingo. The first child raises her hand and offers up misseltoe misteltoe mistletoe. The teacher says “Now if you want to use a word like that, you have to go look up the spelling in the dictionary.” Sheryl whispers to her son to use a word she had taught him……”Say abominable, Joey.” Joey raises his hand, teacher calls on him, and Joey says “abominable,” as in the Abominable Snowman. The teacher got frustrated and angry and replied, “Joey, you need to look up that spelling in the dictionary. Now you kids need to give me words that I can spell.” The third Christmas word – which my friend did not quite hear – also threw her for a loop, and at that point she started to get bitchy and demanded “simple” words. So this box of rocks felt no shame whatsoever at not being able to keep up with her fifth graders. Sheryl said all the mothers just stood there, acting in concert with the teacher, as if they, as women, were not expected to know any better. How sad, how pathetic it is – the state of what some people call “education” in Amerrikka. Anybody can get a wimpy bachelor’s in education, making “certification” nothing more than a bad joke. And everywhere you go there are parents who don’t have a clue themselves, further entrenching The System as the ideal training ground for young minds.

Aussie Man Wearing Anti-Bush T-Shirt Not Allowed To Board Flight

An Australian man was denied permission to board a connecting flight within Australia unless he removed the T-shirt titled “World’s #1 Terrorist” with a picture of U.S. President George W. Bush.

The incident occurred on December 2 when Allen Jasson, who lives in London, was stopped by security personals at an airport while he was en route to meet his family. He was at the terminal hoping to catch a connecting flight from Adelaide to Melbourne when his ordeal began.

According to ANI, Jasson was first stopped at London’s Heathrow Airport and forced to remove the T-shirt because it caused “security problem in light of the present situation.”

He faced a similar situation at the Adelaide Airport and felt that both incidents were attempts to prevent him from exercising his freedom of expression of his feelings.

“I told her I had the right to express my opinion. I felt I had made my point and caved in,” Jasson said.

However, the Aussie passenger wore his Bush T-Shirt again but was yet again banned from boarding a subsequent connecting flight.

“It was argued other passengers could be offended. I said it was most offensive that I would be prevented from expressing my political views,” said the Aussie traveler.

However, a Virgin Blue spokeswoman said “Most people use common sense and don’t go out of their way to offend people.”

THE GOVERNMENT CAN SAVE YOU

Federal workers failed to lock a gate blocking the logging road that led James Kim to his death last week — a different story than has been told since his death and his family’s rescue.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management was supposed to lock the gate near the entrance of the road, known only as 34-8-36, on Nov. 1. The gate is meant to prevent people from turning onto a maze of logging spurs instead of staying on Bear Camp Road, which cuts through the mountains to the Oregon Coast.

Officials with the agency have maintained since last week that the gate had been locked but was later vandalized. But BLM spokesman Michael Campbell said Wednesday that an internal investigation this week into the suspected vandals turned up the surprising culprit: the agency itself.
