May 11, 2002, Israeli Embassy Demonstration a Huge Success for Pro-White
Activists
by Victor Gerhard
On May 11, 2002, the largest gathering of White Nationalists in Washington,
D.C. since World War II shook the capital of the New World Order and also
displayed the Radical Right's growing abilities to plan, organize and
cooperate.
The day's main event was a 12:00 noon march and demonstration at the Israeli
Embassy, followed by a dinner at an Alexandria restaurant and a White Power
concert.
Saturday Morning at the Hotel
Some demonstrators began gathering at a Vienna, Virginia, hotel early on the
morning of the 11th. A number of demonstrators including National Alliance
(NA) Deputy Membership Coordinator Billy Roper and members of the NA
Headquarters staff had stayed at the hotel Friday night. There had been
rumors that some members of Anti-Racist Action (ARA) planned on damaging the
cars of demonstrators while the demonstration was taking place and marchers
wanted to take as few cars as possible. The D.C. police had stated they would
watch the cars but this had been the same promise, unfulfilled, made by the
police at the York demonstration; at least one group of demonstrators rented a
van with full insurance coverage just for the ride into D.C.
At 10:55 a.m. about 40 demonstrators left the hotel heading for D.C. and the
planned 11:30 gathering at the Van Ness parking garage. There was some
concern about the actual turnout. While at least 200 people were expected,
there was no guarantee such numbers would actually show up considering the
many pro-White organizations involved and the distances many people were
expected to travel. Rumors of the number of expected counter-demonstrators
(CDs) also ran into the hundreds, and regardless of numbers the demonstrators
present were going to march. An e-mail circulated to anticipated
demonstrators had suggested bringing, among other things, cameras to record CD
assaults and crimes, water to clear eyes in case of tear gas or mace, and a
washcloth soaked in diluted chlorine for use in case the 'tolerant' CDs again
resorted to throwing condoms of urine allegedly donated by their legions of
HIV-positive deviants. None of this could sound encouraging to potential
demonstrators, yet they had to be warned.
The Garage
Turning the corner onto Van Ness one could see about 40 CDs with garish
clothing and several large banner-type signs already gathered on the corner of
Connecticut and Van Ness.
Heading down a few levels into the parking garage there was only empty space --
until arriving at the reserved level. It was a great sight: the level in
every direction was filled with cars and fellow White Nationalists.
Approximately 150 demonstrators, mostly Skinheads, but also Alliance, Aryan
Nations and World Church of the Creator members, were already present. More
cars were coming in every minute and the last half hour passed quickly as
pictures were taken, lists of chants and directions to the further events were
passed out, and a large double-line of marchers was formed. Roper announced
that any attack would come from the right side on the way out and so that side
would be manned by those prepared to fight. At precisely 12:00 the front of
the line was at the garage entrance ready to exit into the bright, sunny day.
However, cars full of demonstrators were still coming into the garage and
there was a wait of about 10 minutes before the marchers finally started
exiting the garage, somewhat over 250 strong.
The March
The line marched out in full view of the counter-demonstrators across the
street. The CDs' morale appeared to visibly diminish as the line came out,
and out, and out -- dwarfing their numbers and immediately putting an end to
any mischief they had planned. The Whites were already chanting because some
of the television crews were present right at the garage exit. The line of
White Nationalists stopped traffic as it crossed Connecticut and Van Ness,
heading to the Israeli Embassy and stretching an entire block. The visual
impact of the enormous line of marchers, with flags, signs and black shirts
was shocking to the CDs and pedestrians alike. Not one pedestrian said a
word; they just stopped and stared in amazement.
Completely intimidated, the CDs could only resort to shouting insults from
their side of the street. The loudest were members of the small Negroid
contingent. They yelled the typical accusations of 'racist' and 'Nazi,' and
were driven into a frenzy when the Whites did not begin groveling at the
accusations. Despite all the brainwashing they had received about 'racism,'
apparently none of these blacks ever had a White person stand up to them. One
very dark and ghetto-ish male started yelling the inevitable threats of
homosexual rape -- he was going to go get his gang of boys and his gun. This
has become a typical reaction - almost any black male regardless of money or
education who is not instantly accorded the status of the 'King' they claim to
have been in Africa will instantly threaten rape and murder.
The demonstrators' shouts and chants, such as 'Go Home and Smoke Your Dope,'
overwhelmed the CDs and they became quiet and shadowed the marchers down the
street.
The Embassy
Arriving across from the Israeli Embassy there were far too many demonstrators
to fit into the usual space behind the barricades. Many stopped just before
the corner, and many others overflowed onto the grassy hill above the
barricades.
As advised by e-mail, demonstrators had brought large signs, water and extra
batteries for the megaphones. Led by Alliance member Steve S., the
demonstrators on the embassy side immediately launched into the planned
chants. There were enough demonstrators to chant at the embassy, to man the
barricades and scream at the CDs, and to go up the hill to wave life-rune
flags.
Even at the embassy, demonstrators continued to arrive, pushing the final
number to almost 300. Across the street 30-40 vocal CDs pounded on
buckets and screamed insults, while another 40 or so sat under the trees or
stood strung-out down the street. The total of counter-demonstrators
including those sitting almost hidden under the trees came to 75-80,
until some began to trickle away. I counted all people present several times
and had others do the same so these numbers are probably the most accurate of
the several news reports. The CDs appeared this time to be mostly Jews or
Whites, with a few Asians and blacks.
While the demonstrators had many new and updated signs, some in Arabic and
some commenting on the recent Jenin massacre, the CDs had small and raggedy
signs, mostly unreadable and left over from past demonstrations. Examples of
the CD signs were: 'Class War, Not Race War'; 'Biseual [sic] and Proud' (which had
many demonstrators laughing, especially when it was held upside down); and
'Anti-Racism not Anti-Semitism.'
One new strategy of the CDs was an amazing act of chutzpah. A number of
obvious Jews had dressed up as Arabs/Palestinians, and were carrying large
signs calling for a Palestinian state and denouncing fascism. Incredibly, the
Jews had realized how tenuous their position had become and had created a
Pro-Israeli Palestinian group merely by wrapping their heads in checked cloth!
These fake Arabs, who were clearly fat, ugly, middle-aged Jewesses, were
reported as real by most of the mainstream news reports.
The Jews had the further nerve to shout that the demonstrators were only using
the Palestinians and that 'real' Palestinians would have nothing to do with
us. A poll of real Palestinians would show only an immense hatred for
Israelis and their American cousins, yet with a few tablecloths and signs the
Jews could create the enormous lie that they spoke for the Palestinian people.
It was truly astonishing but indicative of the growing weakness of the
Israeli position.
Another weird moment came when the CDs chanted 'Nazi Faggots Always Lie.'
Somehow 'faggot' became Semitically Correct for the time being.
Considering the large number of obvious queers evident among the CDs, this was
yet more chutzpah. In fact, many demonstrators seriously discussed whether
hitting the tiny, rail-thin, androgynous, scarf-wearing CDs would be
tantamount to hitting a woman. It was not necessary to resolve this dilemma
as the CDs stayed far away.
On the White side of the street the demonstrators chanted 'Freedom for
Palestine - A Rope for Every Finklestein.' An Israeli flag was torn up and
walked on. The CDs individually screamed curses or gave middle fingers and
once in a while did a short chant backed up by several masked creatures banging
sticks on the bottom of pails. Whenever the CDs started getting too obnoxious
the demonstrators would do a chant to drown them out. Many comical figures
were present among the CDs: a mulatto girl who had her middle finger up the
whole two hours; a large black male with a huge grin and arms wrapped around
two white women; an enormous black woman that all present agreed would be the
toughest opponent in a street fight; and many dykes and homos acting in
stereotypical ways.
Back to the Garage
Two hours passed quickly and just before 2:00 p.m. the demonstrators prepared
to march back to the garage. All paper, signs and bottles were cleaned up.
Driving past the site an hour later not a single piece of paper was left on
that side of the street.
The demonstrators marched back without incident. There were a number of
minorities, Blacks, Indians, Asians, Jews, on the street as they marched, but
no minority said anything, they watched with their mouths firmly closed,
creating a spectacle for many of the marchers who had never seen a black with
a closed mouth before. "I didn't know they could do that," remarked one
marcher.
Just before the line entered the garage, fifty Skinheads swung around and
acted as the rear guard as the rest of the marchers went in. This precaution
was based on past CD behavior but proved unnecessary this day.
The marchers walked down several levels to their cars, most singing The White
Man Marches On.
To no one's surprise the CDs had in fact managed to sneak into the garage and
several cars had slashed tires. Probably some demonstrators should have
stayed and stood guard in the garage. People shared tools and the tires were
quickly fixed.
Before departing many phone numbers and e-mail addresses were exchanged --
further growth of a network possibly far greater than anyone suspects.
The Dinner
A dinner had been arranged following the march in Alexandria, Virginia.
Thirty-five reservations had been taken, but over fifty people showed up. The
food was excellent but went fast. Billy Roper made a short speech, thanking
the organizers of the dinner.
The Concert
Over 150 people showed up at a hall near the Vienna, Virginia, motel for a
White Power concert. The bands were Lone Wolf, Hammerhead, H8 Machine,
Definite H8 and Max Resist. The concert started at 7:30 as Lone Wolf picked
out the opening bars of Sweet Home Alabama, to the cheers of the crowd.
Resistance Records and Panzerfaust Records both had long tables set up in the
back of the hall.
With several kegs of beer and great bands the concert was a rousing success
and an appropriate end to a day in which Skinheads had played such a prominent
role. There was slam dancing, singing, drinking, and a general good time
until the hall had to close at 12:30 a.m.
Signs of a Growing Movement
There were many indications that this day was far more important and prophetic
than past demonstrations:
Various members of Skinhead organizations made up about two-thirds
of the demonstration participants. Unlike Europe, in America Skinheads have
been a relatively overlooked part of the racialist movement and also have been
relatively uninvolved in politics. Clearly this is all beginning to change.
Skinheads have been in the forefront of the last several Israeli Embassy
demonstrations and the gathering at York, Pennsylvania. Appearing at this
demonstration were the Eastern Hammerskins, the Keystone Skins, the White Star
Skins, the Blair County Skins, and probably other groups. Many Skins came
hundreds of miles. Some of the Skins were also members of the Alliance or
WCOTC.
Unity and cooperation between various far-right groups is
continuing. Besides the Skinheads, also present were a large number of
members of the National Alliance, the World Church of the Creator, Aryan
Nations and some unaffiliated individuals. The age range was greater than
ever before, with infants, people in their seventies, and every age in between.
Far more women were present than at the past few demonstrations, including
many very good-looking ones, as opposed to the stomach-turners across the
street. People came from Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Georgia,
North Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut,
Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Tennessee and other states.
A large number of new, recognizable faces showed up for this
demonstration, including Hal Turner, from the Internet radio show, Eric Gliebe
of Resistance Records, Anthony of Panzerfaust, Mark Cotterill of the BNP, and
members of the bands, including headliner Max Resist.
This demonstration showed a new level of ability among the Racial
Right. A large number of organizations were able to cooperate, and in one day
put on a march and demonstration, a dinner, and a concert. Everything
happened almost as perfectly as planned. A great amount of organization was
necessary, much of which took place online via e-mails and mailing groups.
New leaflets and pamphlets were handed out, including a very good booklet by
the WCOTC. Cell phones were used to communicate around D.C. There were many
video cameras present the whole day, recording events for future publication.
Billy Roper of the National Alliance was the impetus, but responsibility was
given to a number of people to arrange all aspects of the events.
Almost unnoticed elsewhere, this demonstration is further evidence
that a new generation of leadership has come of age on the far right. Almost
all the organizers and leaders were in their thirties. Numerous older people
were present, but they were following the plans and leadership of others.
Just a short time ago, most of the best-known racialist leaders were in their
sixties and seventies. Soon the Jews and the left will begin to talk about the new,
younger leaders and their different abilities and tactics.
The day was a great success, with the best part being the feeling of walking
as part of a group of 300 people, free for that moment to do, say and think
whatever they wanted -- for that moment the freest people in the world.
